This area was described as the one with the lowest pollution because of the absence of industrial plants. Only the BAM left traces in the environment and nature expressed by destroyed forests and landscape. In addition, the same environmental problems as in other regions around the lake occur: the unpurificated discharge of waste water to Lake Baikal, problems with solid waste, absent or little understanding of nature and the missing of nature preservation-education of citizens.
